Two Canadian Companies Partner to Give OC Transpo Riders More Options

Ottawa, ON – Today, VRTUCAR and Transit App, two of Canada’s most innovative transportation companies, celebrate their new partnership. Transit App will become the first mobile application in Ottawa to offer residents a full suite of transport options: real-time public transit, Uber, and now, car-sharing with VRTUCAR.

VRTUCAR is a 24-hour carsharing service based in Ottawa and Kingston that gives members all of the conveniences of owning a car without the burdens of ownership. The company is celebrating 15 years of providing Ottawans with sustainable, affordable transportation option. Its fleet of more than 100 cars is conveniently sprinkled throughout the city, providing commuters with yet another green way to travel.

Transit App is a tool for urban mobility used by millions of commuters in over 95 cities. Built in Montreal, Transit App is used by tens of thousands of OC Transpo riders every month, who take advantage of instant access to real-time departure times for buses and the O-Train. Now, people who use OC Transpo can benefit from the added flexibility of carsharing. Users can see exactly where VRTUCAR vehicles are parked, and book them right inside of Transit App.

This integration will offer even better access to VRTUCAR’s fleet in the Ottawa area. App users can easily compare between public transit and car-sharing to find out the best way to traverse Ottawa for a given trip. With all transport options integrated in a single interface, users of Transit App can even find out where to get off their bus in order to pick up the nearest VRTUCAR.

More than 90 per cent of current VRTUCAR members do not own a personal vehicle—so partnering with the leading urban transport app in North America was a clear fit for both companies.

“We are excited to give our members yet another reason to leave their cars behind. After all, if you’re on the bus, you’re one of us,” says VRTUCAR’s Chief Sharing Officer, Wilson Wood.

“We built Transit App to improve the commuting experience for public transit riders and enable a car-free urban lifestyle,” said Sam Vermette, CEO of Transit App. “Today, we are thrilled to partner with VRTUCAR to make it even easier for people in Ottawa to get around their city.”

To celebrate their partnership, Transit App users who decide to sign-up for VRTUCAR are eligible to receive a $30 carsharing credit when they use promo code available within the app.
